The jolly Jewish holiday of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (late winter/early spring). Purim 2026 begins on Monday night, March 2 and continues until Tuesday, March 3 (extending through Wednesday in Jerusalem). It commemorates the (Divinely orchestrated) salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian empire from Haman`s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day.” Literally “lots” in ancient Persian, Purim was thus named since Haman had thrown lots to determine when he would carry out his diabolical scheme, as recorded in the Megillah (book of Ester).

La alegre festividad judía de Purim se celebra cada año el 14 del mes hebreo de Adar (finales del invierno/principios de la primavera). Purim 2026 comienza la noche del lunes 2 de marzo y continúa hasta el martes 3 de marzo (extendiéndose hasta el miércoles en Jerusalén). Conmemora la salvación (orquestada por Dios) del pueblo judío en el antiguo imperio persa del complot de Amán para “destruir, matar y aniquilar a todos los judíos, jóvenes y ancianos, niños y mujeres, en un solo día”. Literalmente “suertes” en persa antiguo, Purim recibió este nombre porque Amán había echado suertes para determinar cuándo llevaría a cabo su diabólico plan, como se registra en la Meguilá (libro de Ester).
