Tisha B’Av and the 3 Weeks

The Three Weeks is an annual mourning period that falls out in the summer. This is when we mourn the destruction of the Holy Temple and our launch into a still-ongoing exile. With an eye to the future, we also learn about the Third Temple, which is yet to be built.

The period begins on the 17th of the Hebrew month of Tammuz, a fast day that marks the day when the walls of Jerusalem were breached by the Romans in 69 CE.

It reaches its climax and concludes with the fast of the 9th of Av, the date when both Holy Temples were set aflame. This is the saddest day of the Jewish calendar, and it is also the date that many other tragedies  befell our people .

Las Tres Semanas es un período de luto anual que cae en el verano. Es entonces cuando lamentamos la destrucción del Santo Templo y nuestro lanzamiento a un exilio que aún continúa. Con la mirada puesta en el futuro, también conocemos sobre el Tercer Templo, que aún está por construirse.

El período comienza el 17 del mes hebreo de Tammuz, un día de ayuno que marca el día en que los romanos abrieron una brecha en los muros de Jerusalén en el año 69 d.C.

Alcanza su clímax y concluye con el ayuno del 9 de Av, fecha en la que ambos Templos Sagrados fueron incendiados. Este es el día más triste del calendario judío, y también es la fecha en la que muchas otras tragedias le sucedieron a nuestro pueblo.
